The Hill College Board of Regents regular meeting was held Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018, in the Hill College Board Room of the Hill County Campus in Hillsboro at 7:05 p.m. The meeting was called to order by Regent President David Teel.
The September 2018 regular meeting minutes were reviewed. Regent Rick Sullins motioned and Regent Dr. William Auvenshine seconded the motion to approve the minutes. The minutes were unanimously approved.
Vice President of Administrative Services Billy Don Curbo presented the September 2018 financial report. Regent Dr. Allan Lane moved to approve the report and Regent Dwight Lloyd seconded the motion. The financial report was approved as presented.
Hill College President Dr. Pam Boehm presented the President’s Report. She attended the Region 5 NJCAA meeting. She toured the McLennan Community College pre-engineering program facilities in Waco with Cleburne ISD representatives. The Hill County Campus Library recently hosted the 2018 Texas Armed Forces and Military Veterans Chess Tournament and Senator Birdwell was in attendance as a special guest. The annual Scholarship Luncheon was recently held at the Cleburne Conference Center. Congressman Roger Williams toured the Cleburne Technical Center and the Snap-on Automotive Center to see the HVAC, Automotive and Welding program facilities. Boehm attended a meeting at the Cleburne Airport with representatives of TSTC for possible aviation program.
Athletic Director and Head Rodeo Coach Paul Brown presented the Athletic Report, including athletes who will be honored at the upcoming Athletic Hall of Fame event. The volleyball team is currently 21-5 overall and 7-0 in the conference and ranked 14th in the national poll. The regional tournament will be Nov. 2-3 at Cedar Valley College. Men’s soccer is 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the region and received votes in the national poll and were just outside of the top 20. Women’s soccer is 11-1 overall and 6-0 in the region. They also received votes in the national poll. The soccer tournaments will both be Oct. 25-27. The men’s rodeo team is currently seventh in the region, just 350 points from second place with 11 men’s team members in the top 10 of their event. Men’s and women’s basketball seasons begin Nov. 2-3.
As the Student Success agenda item, Dr. Boehm congratulated Eric Larson on his video production work of promoting student success of Hill College students. Larson, the media production manager of the Hill College Marketing and Communications Department presented a video showcasing nursing alumna, Angela Trompler, for the Student Success Initiative report.
Vice President of External Affairs Jessyca Brown presented the SACSCOC accreditation report and presented Section 4 regarding board governance.
Boehm presented the approval of closing the physical facilities of the Bosque County Center. Services and classes continue to be provided to the residents of Bosque County. Regent Jennifer Nowlin motioned to accept the recommendation, Regent Secretary Karen Bracken seconded the motion. The motion was approved.
Boehm presented two new Johnson County Advisory Board members; Lori Zachary of Property Tax Assistance, Inc., and Amy Keiffer Womack of the Citizens National Bank of Texas. Sullins motioned to approve the new members, and Eubank seconded the motion. The motion was approved.
Brown presented the revised Hill College mission statement. Regent Vice President Bill Galiga motioned to accept the recommendation, Lane seconded the motion, and the motion was approved.
Dean of Health Sciences Lori Moseley presented for consideration the approval of the clinical learning lab agreement with Western Governors University’s baccalaureate degree nursing program. Auvenshine motioned to accept the recommendation, Galiga seconded the motion. The motion was approved.
Vice President of Student Services Lizza Trenkle presented for consideration the affiliation agreement with Alazar Medical Group of Cleburne and the Hill College Continuing Education Phlebotomy program. Nowlin motioned, and Regent Tony Marley seconded the motion and the motion carried.
Trenkle presented the standard educational services training agreement with Tejas-Premium Meats of Itasca for Continuing Education. The first programs to be offered will be workplace Spanish. Lane motioned, and Sullins seconded the motion and the motion carried.
Trenkle presented the approval of affiliation agreement with Urgent Care Texas and Hill College Continuing Education Medical Assistant program. Brackin motioned, and Eubank seconded the motion and the motion carried.
Under personnel considerations, Director of Human Resources Jamie Jaska presented personnel considerations for approval of three staff appointment replacements for an academic success coordinator, a student navigator and a dual credit student navigator, as well as, one faculty replacement appointment for a professional nursing instructor. Marley made a motion to accept, Brackin seconded, and the motion passed.
With no further business to conduct, Brackin motioned to adjourn, Auvenshine seconded, and the meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
